The effort to change the federal holiday of Columbus Day to “Indigenous Peoples Day” is gaining momentum across the country as two more cities make the official change. Phoenix, Arizona is one of them, becoming the largest city to adopt the politically correct version followed by the entire state of Vermont, according to The Daily Mail. Vermont Gov. Peter Shumlin signed the proclamation and said it was “an opportunity to celebrate indigenous heritage and resiliency.”
Another difference is that government workers in some of these cities won’t just get the day off, they will participate in a celebration of the contributions of indigenous people to their cities. According to the report, nearly 30 cities and townships in America have adopted the holiday name change including Denver, Portland, San Antonio, Seattle, and Minneapolis. A measure to change the holiday in Cincinnati, Ohio was before the city council but was dashed when five of the nine legislators abstained from voting. READ MORE
