The Omaha Public School Board of Education is scheduled to hold a second vote on a volatile policy that would include adding gender identity – or gender expression – to their anti-discrimination policy. Twenty out of 26 parents and citizens testified fervently against the pro-LGBT measure at last month’s meeting.

Following the public testimony, Nebraskans for Founders’ Values Executive Director Mark Bonkiewicz of explained that some board members fired back with pejoratives. “Some of them really felt that a few of the testifiers were out of line because – in essence – they called us ‘haters’ and ‘bigots’ and those kinds of things because we were standing up for the safety concerns of all children,” Bonkiewicz recounted.
