Florida’s Gulf coast was bracing for a hit from Tropical Storm Hermine on Thursday, which forecasters said could make landfall as a hurricane.  A hurricane warning was in effect for the Florida panhandle from the Suwannee River to Mexico Beach as the strengthening storm was expected to sweep across northern parts of the state.

The system is expected to then continue northeast along the Atlantic Coast, the National Hurricane Center said in an advisory. The center forecasts Hermine may reach hurricane strength as it comes ashore likely as a Category 1 storm.
Category 1 wind speeds are between 74 mph and 95 mph, according to forecasters. READ MORE
