A Dearborn man, who emigrated to the U.S. from Lebanon as a teenager, pleaded guilty Monday to lying about his plans to travel back to his homeland and fight for the Shiite terrorist group Hezbollah. In fact, the evidence now suggests Mohammad Hassan Hamdan may have been a terrorist before he ever came to America and settled in Michigan at the age of 15.
The implications of Hamdan’s admission at a time when the U.S. government is bringing in tens of thousands of supposedly screened refugees from jihadist hotbeds in Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan and Somalia are huge. Hamdan, now 24, admitted he initially lied in March 2014 when he told federal agents he was going to Lebanon to “get his teeth fixed,” according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the Detroit News reported.
