A local car dealership may be paying a price for patriotism. The Kia car dealership on South Military Trail was issued a code-enforcement violation from Palm Beach County for displaying American Flag banners on its property. The notice cites a Unified Land Development code that prohibits displaying banners, streamers, pennants, balloons or other signage made of lightweight fabric, plastic, or similar material.

The six American flag banners currently wave proudly at the entrance of the dealership. “We’re just trying to show our patriotism,” said Mike Wangle, General Manager of the dealership. The banners are on dealership property. The notice served this week says the banners have to be removed by the fourth of July or there will be a daily fine of up to $1,000. “You would think they they would let us leave it up during the fourth and then say take them down after the holiday,” added Wangle.
