In a speech translated by Palestinian Media Watch (PWM), Zahar said to Al-Ayyam on October 1 that the intention of Hamas, behind all the empty words at the negotiating table, is to build an ISIS-like Caliphate to replace Israel in “Palestine.” “[Some] have said Hamas wants to create an Islamic emirate in Gaza. We won’t do that, but we will build an Islamic state in Palestine, all of Palestine,” he said. The issue with Hamas’ takeover of Israel is the fact that they are based in the Gaza Strip, which practically speaking means they pose little to no real threat to the existence of Israel or to the best army in the world, the Israeli Defense Forces. In his interview, Zahar soon got all biblical as Islamist radicals always do and spoke about “the final promise” (similar in essence to the “final solution”), which he said could feasibly be waged from the West Bank, which is currently under the control of the Palestinian Authority.
